Mathura Peda

Prep.5 min., Cooking time 20 min., Yield 20 pcs.


For Flavoured Sugar Powder ( Buru)

Sugar                                      1 cup

Ghee                                       1 ts

Edible Camphor                      Pinch

For Peda:

Ghee                                       1 tbsp

Milk Khoya grated                   2 cups or 250 gm

Cardamom Powder                 1 ts

Milk                                          1 tbsp



For Flavoured Sugar Powder:

Take Sugar, Ghee and Edible Camphor in a pan. Add water as much as to cover Sugar in the pan. Put in on medium flame. Stir it slowly and continuously. When it starts to thicken, reduce flame to low and continue stirring. When it becomes very thick, remove the pan from flame and continue stirring slowly to cool it down. Please don’t just leave it to cool down.


When it is cooled down, it will look like Sugar Powder. Just sieve it to separate fine powder.


For Peda:

Heat Ghee in a pan on low-medium flame. Add grated Milk Khoya and roast it on low-medium flame in heated Ghee while stirring slowly and continuously. When it becomes light brownish, remove tha pan from flame and leave it to reduce the temperature. Please, don’t leave it for long to cool down completely.


Then, add Cardamom Powder and ½ cup of prepared Flavoured Sugar Powder. Add ½ tbsp or 1 tbsp of Milk only if it looks like very dry powder.


Prepare number of small balls of prepared mixture.


Roll all prepared balls in Flavoured Sugar Powder for coating.


Serve fresh or store for later use.
