Sweet Potato Misal for Fasting

Prep.10 min., Cooking time 20 min., Qty. 2 Plates


For Misal Masala:

Cinnamon                                1 small pc

Clove Buds                              4-5

Black Pepper granules            4-5

Cumin Seeds                          1 ts

Fennel Seeds                          1 ts

Star Anise                               2

Dry Red Chilli                          2-3

Dried Ginger Powder              ½ ts

Mango Powder                        1 ts


For Misal:

Oil                                            2 tbsp

Cumin Seeds                          ½ ts

Curry Leaves                           4-5

Ginger grated                          1 small pc

Red Chilli Powder                   1 ts

Salt to taste

Peanuts boiled                        ½ cup

Sweet Potato boiled                1

Lemon Juice                            of ½ lemon

Fresh Coriander Leaves         1 tbsp


For Serving:

Tapioca-Sweet Potato Khichdi (Sabudana khichdi)

Fasting Chevda

Spiced Peanuts

Fresh Coriander Leaves



For Misal Masala:

Pre-heat a non-stick pan on low flame. Put Cinnamon, Clove Buds, Black Pepper granules, Cumin Seeds, Fennel Seeds, Star Anise and Dry Red Chilli. Roast them well. Toss and stir eventually to roast them all around. When roasted, leave them on an open plate for 5-7 minutes to cool down.


Take all roasted ingredients in a dry grinding jar of your mixer. Add Dried Ginger Powder and Mango Powder. Grind to fine powder.


Fasting Misal Masala is ready.


For Misal:

Heat Oil in a pan on low flame. Add Cumin Seeds, Curry Leaves and grated Ginger. When sautéed, add 1 tbsp of prepared Misal Masala, Red Chilli Powder and Salt. Mix well. Add boiled Peanuts and Sweet Potato. Mix well. Add approx 2 cups of water and cook on low-medium flame for 4-5 minutes while stirring occasionally to avoid sticking and burning at the bottom of the pan. Add Lemon Juice and Fresh Coriander Leaves. Mix well. Remove the pan from the flame.


Misal is ready.


For Serving:

Take Tapioca-Sweet Potato Khichdi in a serving bowl.


Pour prepared Misal on it.


Sprinkle Fasting Chevda, Spiced Peanuts and Fresh Coriander Leave.


Serve Fresh.
