Gahat ka Shorba

Oil 1 ts

Cumin Seeds 1 ts

Coriander Granules ½ ts

Cinnamon 1

Clove buds 4

Star Anise 1

Jakhiya 1 ts

(Asian Spider Weeds / Wild Mustard Seeds)

(optionally, Mustard Seeds can be used)

Asafoetida Powder Pinch

Ginger-Chilli-Garlic Paste 1 tbsp

Onion chopped 1

Tomato chopped 1

Fresh Coriander Stems 1 tbsp

Kalthi (Gahat) soaked ½ cup

(Horse Gram)

Salt to taste

Black Pepper Powder ½ ts

Lemon Juice of 1 lemon



Heat Oil in a pressure cooker on high flame. Add Cumin Seeds, Coriander Granules, Cinnamon, Clove buds, Star Anise, Jakhiya and Asafoetida Powder. When crackled, add Ginger-Chilli-Gralic Paste and chopped Onion. When Onion softens, add chopped Tomato and cook for 2-3 minutes. Add Fresh Coriander Stems and soaked Horse Gram. Add approx 2 glasses of water. Add Salt. Pressure cook up to 3 or 4 whistles.


Leave pressure cooker to cool down for approx 10-15 minutes.


Open the pressure cooker. Strain and collect the water in a bowl.


Add Black Pepper Powder and Lemon Juice in strained water. Mix well.


Serve Fresh.

Urad Dal Thick Soup / Husked Split Black Gram Thick Soup

Preparation time 5 minutes

Cooking time 20 minutes

Servings 2



Husked Split Black Gram ½ cup

Husked Split Green Gram 2 tbsp

Black Pepper 4-5

Cinnamon 1 pc

Clove buds 4-5

Cinnamon Leaf 1

Cardamom 2

Ginger fine chopped 1 ts

Green Chilli fine chopped 2

Salt to taste


For tempering:

Ghee 1 tbsp

Garlic fine chopped 1 ts

Fresh Coriander Leaves 1 tbsp

Lemon to taste



In a non-stick pan, take and roast, Husked Split Black Gram, Husked Split Green Gram, Black Pepper, Cinnamon, Clove buds, Cinnamon Leaf and Cardamom. Roast Split Black Gram and Split Green to brownish. Switch off flame.


Add water enough to cover the stuff and leave to get soaked for 10-15 minutes.


Take this mixture in a pressure cooker, add fine chopped Ginger, fine chopped Green Chilli and Salt and pressure cook to 5 whistles.


Blend it with a blender to fine crush and strain it to collect water in a pan.


Heat Ghee in a pan on low flame.


Add finely chopped Garlic and sauté and add it in prepared soup.


Boil soup for 2-3 minutes.


Add Lemon Juice and mix well.


Take it in a serving bowl.


Sprinkle Fresh Coriander Leaves.


Serve Fresh and Hot.

Tomato Dhaniya Shorba

Preparation time 10 minutes

Cooking time 20 minutes

Yield 1 bowl



Oil 1 ts

Black Pepper 5-7

Whole Coriander 1 tbsp

Cumin Seeds 1 tbsp

Cinnamon 2 pcs

Big Cardamom 1

Clove buds 5

Onion chopped 1

Garlic chopped 5 buds

Carrots chopped 2 tbsp

Tomato chopped 5-6

Ginger Paste 1 ts

Salt to taste

Fresh Coriander Stalks chopped ½ cup

Kashmiri Red Chilli Paste 1 ts

Butter 1 ts

Clove-Cinnamon Powder Pinch


Garlic Breads for serving



Heat Oil in a pan.


Add Black Pepper, Whole Coriander, Cumin Seeds, Cinnamon 1 pc, Big Cardamom and Clove Buds and sauté well.


Add chopped Onion, Garlic, Carrots, Tomato and Ginger Paste. Mix well.


Add littler water and Salt. Mix well.


Cover the pan with a lid and cook on medium flame until Tomatoes are cooked well.


Add chopped Fresh Coriander Stalks and Kashmiri Red Chilli Paste. Mix well.


Add 1 glass of Water and let it boil on medium flame for a while.


Strain the mixture and collect Spiced Water in a bowl. Keep it a side.


Heat Butter in a pan on low flame.


Add 1 pc of Cinnamon.


When spluttered, add Spiced Water and Clove-Cinnamon Powder. Let it boil for 3-4 minutes on medium flame.


Serve Hot and Fresh with Garlic Breads.


Spice Up with Spicy and Healthy Tomato-Coriander Shorba.

Oats Soup

Preparation time: 10 minutes

Cooking time 10 minutes

For 2 persons



Oil 1 ts

Ginger-Green Chilli-Garlic 1 tbsp

(finely chopped)

Onion finely chopped 1

Carrot finely chopped 2 tbsp

Fresh Coriander Stem pieces 1 tbsp

Vegetable Stock 2 cup

Salt to taste

Oats or Masala Oats ½ cup

Sunflower Seeds for garnishing



Heat Oil in a pan. Add finely chopped Ginger, Green Chilli, Garlic, Onion, Carrot and Fresh Coriander Stem and sauté well.


Add Vegetable Stock, Salt and 1 cup of water. Continue cooking on medium flame for 4-5 minutes.


Add Oats or Masala Oats, mix well and continue cooking on medium flame for 3-4 minutes.


Take it in a serving bowl.


Garnish with Sunflower Seeds.


Serve Fresh and Hot.


Have a Very Healthy and Delicious Oats Soup.
